ShipRock, Tse Bi Dahi, Navajo Lands

Tse Bi Dahi,... Shiprock in Navajo language, meaning "Winged Rock" is a lava extrusion in the middle of a vast red valley in New Mexico. The name comes from the 3 lava dikes walls that extend out (Wings), from the volcanic neck, 1583'  above the desert floor. In planning this epic landscape, I wanted to include both wings of the lava wall dikes spralling out from the towering base. To be able to accomplish this I had to fly up to an altitude of 1590 feet, same height as the Lava tower, and back away far enough to get both wings in position correctly/believable ?? ! ! !

This is the new genre of painting I'm developing,... using googlearth, to go any where on the planet I want to go ! ! !..... So once I got the "Winged Rock" proportioned for the canvas, the next features will be the background dynamics, whats behind the Wings ?? ! ! ! so thats easy just fly out with googlearth and explore the lands out back = OMG,... to be able to fit the "Winged Rock" in the compostion, I will need to research 3 separate mountain ranges, behind the painting ???? ! ! !  Chuska range where Chinle canyon is on the other side, Lukachukai red cliffs and mountains, where the highway pass to go over mountains, then north over to the Carrizo mountains and some of the most amazing canyons and mesa grottos you could ever explore by 4X4, with Monument Valley in the far distance

This is what I get to explore, find fotos, videos, features, details, aerial fotos, colors, textures, clouds, sky, mesas, ssooooo much to discover,... my Favorite part about designing a painting ! ! !,.... Now once I've made a computer folder of all the foto files, vids and info about everything to put in the painting, we start making small drawings to get the proportions believable, and transfer to the canvas, and start blocking in basis colors and features. Days, weeks, months, years later we have a finished painting ready for patrons to enjoy $$$$
